It was Mahesh Bhatt who told Sandeep he would fly to America and personally talk to Vinod about returning and finishing the film.
Vinod said he will see what he could do and would not promise anything. Sandeep would make several phone calls to Vinod. When Vinod left left for America, Sandeep kept begging Vinod to return so he could complete the film and release it. He profusely apologized to Sandeep and even paid him back a lot of the money spent on the film. When the film was 75% complete, Vinod decided to leave India and join Rajneesh in America. A common friend of Vinod and Kabir Bedi's. Not only would the stars shoot there but stay at the house also. Chandra Barot had rented a rich NRI's house for the film's shoot. The production values would be unheard of. Boss would be about a Indian tycoon settled abroad. Bernie Abramson was to do the photography. The crew was to consist of American and Indian technicians. Aaron C.Butler would be writing the English script. The English version would be with no songs and be 90 minutes. Upon hearing the script, Cronin agreed to produce the film as a Hindi and English bilingual film. He acquired a American co producer for the film. Chandra Barot returned from America a very happy man. One of the reasons why Vinod agreed was that it would be shot in America and Africa. Chandra Barot went to Los Angeles in 1981 and signed Vinod Khanna for the film. Due to Vinod's retirement, people thought Vinod would not do the film. Due to the success of Qurbani, Feroz Khan could not commit to the film. But after Qurbani,Feroz Khan was untraceable and busy travelling. Zeenat Aman and Danny Denzongpa were signed for the other roles. Chandra Barot first planned the film "Boss" in 1981 with Feroz Khan in mind.
